DIY Hygiene And Beauty Product Ideas

Hygiene and beauty products typically cost a fortune and can be a huge unnecessary waste of money if they are not used fully. In addition to the high price tag, they are often terrible for the environment because they are usually not eco-friendly and fill up landfills with non-biodegradable containers. If you are tired of spending money on these things, you may be looking for ways to make your own products. Here are some simple do it yourself ways to keep up with your hygienic needs and make your own beauty products

1) Soap

One of the best ways to start making your own hygiene products if you do not have a lot of experience is to start with a simple soap. You can make soap easily, make it to fit your exact needs, and maybe even have fun during the process.

To make a basic bar of soap you need to add 1/4 cup of coconut oil, 1/2 cup of melted lye and pour soap, 3 drops of your favorite essential oil, and 1 cup of sugar to a double boiler. Heat the ingredients together and stir. Let them remain on the double boiler for about 15 minutes and then pour the mixture into a silicone mold. Let the mixture cool for about six hours and then wrap it in your favorite paper.

This is an ideal way to save money on store-bought soaps and improve your overall hygiene. You can experiment with new scents and even gift these soap bars to family and friends.

2) Body Lotion

There are many lotions available in stores and online, however many of them do not work the way they promise. If you are tired of spending money on lotions and not having the soft and smooth skin you desire, you can always try making your own.

To make your own lotion you need to combine 2 tablespoons of almond oil with 1/4 cup of coconut oil, 2 teaspoons of ginger, and 1/2 cup of shea butter. Microwave these together for about thirty seconds and let cool. Then, use a hand mixer to combine the previous mixture with two teaspoons of vanilla extract, 2 teaspoons of vitamin E, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix this until it resembles a whipped lotion.

You can fill small jars with this lotion and gift to friends and family. If you prefer to keep it all, you can put it all in one big jar and use it as needed.

3) Lip Balm

If you are looking to make your lip balm, you can use this basic recipe to do so. You can add together different ingredients and essential oils to give you the exact flavor and scent that you want.

Simply use 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter, 1 tablespoon of beeswax, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 2 cups of water, and about 10 drops of your favorite essential oils. Combine and melt these ingredients into a double boiler and heat for about ten minutes. Then, pour into silicone molds and let cool. After drying, you can place them into lip balm holders and use them as needed.
